CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

* Please note that all roles are meant to be performed by young-looking adult actors, not actual teenagers.

EDITH, 12, Filipino-American, a girl, KENNY’s sister.  Street smart and book smart.  She is very mature for her age, having been forced to grow up sooner than her time, yet still vulnerable and innocent that she talks to a toy frog.  Spunky, spirited, and tough, she has a bit of the tomboy in her and is the type that can be found running around barefoot.  Should be played convincingly and genuinely by an adult.  Should sing well but does not need to have a trained voice.  No caricatures please.

KENNY, 16, Filipino-American, a young man, EDITH’s brother.  He is very sweet, caring, and responsible, but isn’t one to put up a fight or “rock the boat.”  Intelligent and clever yet doesn’t stand out from the crowd.  Kenny is at an age when he explores his budding sexuality with Benji.  Should be played convincingly and genuinely by an adult.  No caricatures please.

BENJI, 16, male, any race, a friend.  He “will one day go to MIT to become a civil engineer or to RISD to become an architect.”  He dresses himself a little too neatly.  Someone who might attract the wrong sort of attention (in the form of bullying/teasing).  Benji is at an age when he explores his budding sexuality with Kenny.  Should be played convincingly and genuinely by an adult.  No caricatures please.
